Yudhveer of Indian Army won the 46th ‘Hind Kesari’ wrestling title by beating Rohit Patel of Madhya Pradesh on points basis here tonight.Yudhveer started on an aggressive note and defeated Patel. He secured four points while Patel got only two points.Yudhveer received a two kg silver mace and Rs three lakh in cash as prize at the hands of Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithiviraj Chavan.The three-day 46th senior national championship and Hindkesari title wrestling competition began on April 20.It was held to mark the centenary of Khasbag wrestling arena, which was constructed by erstwhile royals Shree Chhtrapati Shahu Maharaj of princely state of Kolhapur. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavhan,Pratapsigh Jadhav of Pudhari,Mahadevrao Mahadik,Hassan Mushrif,P.N.Patil,Harshavardhan Patil,Ddu Chaugule,Shahu Maharaj,Satej Patil,Arun Dongle and others dignitaries were present at the time of prize distribution.

Kushti is traditional Indian wrestling.It’s not just a sport art, it’s an ancient subculture.Wrestlers live and train together, have their strict rules. Kushti wrestlers live in gyms called akhara. Their diet consists of milk, eggs, almonds and chapatitis. During the wrestling events, the wrestlers are inspired by the musical background using the instrumental music known as Halagi. The Maidan is used as a training camp for wrestling sports persons. The wrestling season extends from June to September every year which is an unforgettable experience.
