Mangoes Available in Kolhapur Market

Mango, The king of fruits has arrived from Devgad on Wednesday and is priced at a wholesale rate of Rs 7,001 and 9,001 for a box of five dozen quality raw mangoes.

The first lot of Alphonsos, among the most-celebrated varieties of mangoes, arrived the city on Wednesday and will set to fire up the markets and the taste buds of Kolhapurkars in the next few weeks with ripened fruits flooding retail outlets of Kolhapur District.

The first box of mangoes was bought by Mr. Amar Shah for Rs. 7,001 and second box was bought by Mr. Zameer Bagwan at Rs. 5,555. These mangoes have arrived at the shop of Yasin Bagwan from the farm of Mr. Suhas Gavekar of Devgad and the deal of first box was done by the hands of Vice-President of Bidri Sugar Factory Shri A. Y. Patil.

Here, President of Bazaar Samiti Shri Dattatray Patil, Vice-President Shri Shamrao Suryavanshi, Members Shri Krushnarao Patil, Shri Dattatray Salonkhe, Shri Namdev Patil, Shri Dinkar Patil, Shri Shamrao Bhoi, Shri Lakshman Mudekar, Shri Ashok Ballal, Shri Nayan Prasade, Shri Krushnat Chauhan, Shri Shamrao Patil, Secretary Shri Sampatrao Patil, Shri Vijay Waichal, M.D. Kolekar and Other important people were present.

This year, the mango-growing districts witnessed their first cold spell by the end of October. All fruit-bearing trees were loaded with mango flowers and this early fruit has now reached city markets. The crop promises to be better this season and supply would become more or less steady from the Second week of April and the rates will then stabilize.

The actual mango season, when the fruit floods markets all over the country by mid-March, may be delayed 20 to 25 days and begin only after April 15, mango growers said.The cold weather prevailing in the country, the global weather system has stagnated the process of flowering in mango trees in Maharashtra, experts said.

Sanjay Pansare, director of the fruits section at agriculture produce market committee in Mumbai, said that the actual season will begin after April 20. Till then, one would see only 10% of the total crop in the market.
