Kolhapur City glorifies on the Mahashivratri fesvital

Kaneri Math of Gokul Shirgao and other Shiva Temples in the city on Monday scampered with lakhs of devotees rushed for making offerings on the great occasion of Mahashivratri.

 

The Kaneri Math and other Shiva Temples in the city rumbled with the chants of ‘bam bam bhole’, ‘har har mahadev’ and Vedic hymns on the occasion of Mahashivratri. More than 1 lakh devotees thronged the Shiva temple of Kaneriwadi since early morning to pay obeisance to Lord Shiva on the occasion of Mahashivratri.

This Yatra at Kaneri Math will last for 3 days (Mon-Wed). Wednesday is the third day and a mass function is organized at the temple. Also, Pravachans of Kadsidheshwar maharaj were being heard by devotees. The surroundings of the Math are also installed with 16 CCTV cameras.

The devotees offered milk, honey, sugarcane juice, sandalwood paste and leaves of wood apple on shivlingas. As “Mahashivaratri” marks the wedding of Lord Shiva with Parvati and thus a very auspicious occasion, people in a large number visiting temples to get their wishes fulfilled.

As per Hindu tradition, Shiva-Parvati is considered a perfect couple. Shiva married Parvati seven times in different incarnations. Many people organized lingabhishek also. Shiva Baraat was also taken out. Children wearing colorful attire were the center of attraction and hundreds of devotees chanted bhajans and shloks.

Wearing colourful clothes, devotees attended the festivities amid beating of drums and blowing of conch shells. It is said lord Shiva showers blessings on all those who heart him with honest. From youngsters to elderly, from middle aged to teenaged, lakhs of Shiv Bhaktas on Monday gathered at Kaneri Math and the entire Kaneri Math was reverberated with bam bam bhole.

Additional police forces were deployed at shiva temples during afternoon hours when devotees in a large number assembled to offer prayers. The queue of devotees stretched for almost a kilometre outside the Temple. Women cops were also deployed to check cases of snatching and eve-teasing.

Minister of state for Home Satej Patil, Zilha Parishad Member Shashikant Khot, Panchayat Samiti Member Ashok Patil and many important people visited Kaneri Math. The Yatra will last for 3 days and Many people of the city who couldn’t visit Kaneri on 1st day can go there as per their suitability.

As a result on both Google (World’s largest search engine) and Twitter (micro-blogging site), words connected to ‘Shiva’ and ‘Shivratri’ are trending. From among the five highest search words today, four of them relate to Shiva. At around 4 pm — ‘Om namah Shivaya’, was trending as the most searched term. ‘Lord Shiva’ stood at number two, ‘maha Shivratri’ was on the third spot, and ‘maha Mrityunjay mantra’ was on fifth spot. The traffic for those searching for the search item ‘Shiva’ began as early 6 am and peaked at 10 am.
