Kolhapur celebrates Christmas with great joy and cheers. Various programs and events were organized to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Kolhapurkars woke up to the coldest Christmas in three years on Sunday. Devout Christians of Kolhapur visited the city churches and started their celebrations with the morning mass, sang carols and exchanged greetings and gifts. Many people especially prayed for functioning of the country and Indian government peacefully. Churches in the city came alive with festive frolic as non-stop carol singing and exchanging of gifts and greetings was seen.
Wilder Memorial Church of New Shahupuri was seen full of Christians having morning mass. After that an English prayer which was later followed by 3 Marathi prayers till 1:30pm. In Kolhapur city and also in District, there is huge number of Christians. Every year, Christmas celebrations and its preparations are seen from 15 December itself. Kolhapur welcomed Christmas by bursting crackers at 12am.
Various worships and prayers were conducted at a Temple near Municipal Corporation at 6pm to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Various Churches including Norma Dunning Church of Vikramnagar, Christ Church of Nagala Park, All Saints Church near Residency Club, Holy Cross and Seventh day etc celebrated Christmas enthusiastically. At Evening, Christians of the city donated fruits and food at Savitribai Phule Infirmary and clothes to poor people.
Shopping malls like D-Mart and Big Bazaar were brimming with people celebrating and savoring Christmas delicacies. Most restaurants were packed to capacity as people were seen dining with their families. Bakeries and confessionary shops witnessed heavy rush for sweetmeals. Stores and galleries selling Christmas knick-knacks were full of kids accompanying their parents, who were eager to buy Christmas trees, candles and other ornaments to ensure their tree looks the most beautiful. Children were enjoying being bestowed with gifts and sweets by Santa Clauses at various prominent places.
