
Yugpurush Chh. Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti was celebrated on Sunday, 19th Feb very enthusiastically and in great manner by citizens and well-known constituents of Kolhapur city.
Various Groups, Sansthas, Associations, Colleges, Corporate offices and Constituencies of Kolhapur had organized various functions to mark the day and celebrated the Jayanti of Chh. Shivaji Maharaj. Also processions were carried out where people were bursting crackers and sloganeering, ‘Jai Bhavani, Jai Shivaji.’
Shivaji Maharaj was the greatest ruler of Maharashtra. And maharashtrians have a great regard for this Maratha ruler. With respect and honor, the birthday of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is celebrated on huge scale on February 19th every year. He was born on this day at the Shivneri fort in the year 1630. He is known as the creator of the Maratha nation.

Shivaji had great mind of constructive genius of medieval India. Time has changed, empires have gone and dynasties have become faded, but the greatness of Chh. Shivaji is alive in the minds of Maharashtrians and Kolhapurkars and also in the minds of every Indian. His dazzling victories and ever-ready smile made him the idol of his soldiers.
At Shivaji Chowk, Rashtravadi Congress and Known Constituents gathered to mark Shivaji Jayanti. The idol of Chh. Shivaji Maharaj was adored with array of blossoming flowers by Kolhapur Mayor Sou. Kadambari Kawale. At Evening, processions (miravnook) were carried out by followers from various organizations, associations and groups.
Here, Police Superintendent Shri Vijaysingh Jadhav, Corporation’s Dy. Commissioner Mr. Omprakash Divate, Corporator Shri Ramesh Powar, Jyotsna Medhe, Rashtravadi Congress’s City Head Shri R.K. Powar, Former Mayor Shri Suresh Salonkhe, Chava Sanghatan’s Mr. Raju Sawant, Advocate Mr. Dhananjay Pathade, Former Corporator Shri Ishwar Parmar, Maratha Mahasangh District President Shri Vasant Mulik, Shankarrao Shilke, Padmakar Kapse, Kisan Kalyankar, Firoz Sargur, Vice Superintendent Shri Mahesh Sawant, Sameer Nadaaf, Kishor Ghatge and other important people were present.
At a procession, Minister of State for Home Shri Satej Patil, MLA Chandradeep Narke, MLA Chandrakantdada Patil and Former MLA Malojiraje were present. Also Mahapatirao Bondre, Rambhao Chauhan, BJP’s District Head Mahesh Jadhav, Ashokrao Salonkhe, Shivajirao Kadam, Vasantrao Mulik, Corporator Ravikiran Ingavle, Raju Sawant, Lala Gaikwad, Baburao Kadam, D.B. Patil, Bajirao Chauhan, Vikram Jarag, Suresh Jarag and many other well-known associates were present.
Also Citizens, Businessmen and Students were present in huge extent. Some were purposely dressed up traditionally to mark Chh. Shivaji Jayanti. People from Panhala, Vishalgad, Sangli and other nearby places came to visit Shivaji chowk. Few were also bursting crackers and uttering slogan, ‘Jai Bhavani, Jai Shivaji.’ Chief Minister Shri Pruthviraj Chauhan at a function at Shivneri (Birth place of Shivaji) said that 10 crores will be allotted for development of Shivneri.
