Local bodies such as Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti, Zilla Parishad or other municipal bodies, are now going online.
The important Zilha Parishad official Mr. Deepak Mahesekar announced that all local bodies and constituencies will make use of internet, social media and accounting software ‘Pranali’. Through this software, every grampanchayat, panchayat samiti and zilha parishad of the district can do online accounting with ease and flexibility.
All local bodies throughout the country will be connected in a single network through this software. The domain URL registered for this purpose is www.accountingonline.gov.in. By implementing accounts of 1028 gram panchayat and 12 panchayat samiti till now, Mr. Mahesekar is honoured as 1st in making use of internet for local bodies.
The Congress party is also planning a web site in addition to its official web site to reach out to the media and the masses. It will carry videos of press conferences, news items related to the Congress, lists of government initiatives, videos of speeches of leaders and images and songs that can be used as promotional material.
The Prime Minister’s Office also reflects this change in the attitude towards the use of new media. The PMO has come on Twitter and has more than 52,000 followers and it seems quite active on the micro-blogging site. The PMO web site has also undergone changes. It is more visual in nature, and pictures from his latest meetings and engagements are uploaded. The revamped Media Gallery on the web site now has a link to videos, besides photographs of his engagements.
“We are now definitely making good use of technology to reach out to people, be it during elections or even otherwise, to be in touch with the constituency,” said young Congress MP Ashok Tanwar. “Not just senior leaders but our representatives in local bodies, such as in the Zilla Parishad or in municipal bodies, are now going online.
